Genesis 37:3 Now Israel loved Joseph above all his sons, because he had him in his old age: and he made him a coat of divers colours.

Old age, and therefore expected to have no more children; but he loved him still more, on account of his innocent and sweet behaviour (Menochius): in which sense the Samaritan, Chaldean, etc., have, "because he was a wise and prudent boy." --- Colours.
