| Exodus 20:14 | Thou shalt not commit adultery. | Adultery. This precept is placed before the former one, in the Septuagint; St. Mark 10:19; and St. Luke 18:20. Adultery was punished with death, Leviticus 20:10. All civilized nations have held it in abhorrence, as destructive of all peace, Job 31:11. All other impure actions are forbidden, under different penalties. |
